Obituary of Sylvia M. Ortiz

Sylvia M. Ortiz nee Barba, 91, of Blue Island, passed from this life Tuesday, April 21, 2020. Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late George Ortiz, who passed away February 26, 2013. She is the loving mother of David (Patricia) Ortiz, Linda (Wayne) Schlimm, Tina (Kerry) Stone and Laura (David) Purol. Sylvia is the adored grandmother of Gail (Daniel) Johnson, Erica Ortiz, Melissa Ortiz, Craig Ortiz, Garrett (Melissa) Schlimm, Samantha (Andrew) Yerkes, Kelli (Jess) MacMillan and Kristi (Robert) Stevenson. She is the cherished great grandmother of Dane, Jace, Aiden, Robert, James, Allison, Meghan, Stella, Pearl, Vera, Elena and Daniel. She is the dear sister of Mary Humphries. Sylvia was born May 1, 1928 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to the late Amalia nee Muniz and Santiago Barba. She and George were united in marriage on January 8, 1949. They were faithful members of St. Donatus Parish. Sylvia was devoted to her family, she got joy from cooking great meals for them and celebrating holidays together. She enjoyed bowling and dancing, especially square dancing and line dancing. Interment will be held privately at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood.
