Obituary of Esther W. Luenser
Esther W. Luenser, nee Woike, 97, of Palos Park, formerly of Blue Island, Illinois, ended her life journey to be with her Lord and Savior on November 6, 2020.
She was the beloved wife of Werner Luenser, whom she married in 1949. Prior to her marriage, she worked nine years for Continental Insurance in downtown Chicago.
Esther was formerly active in the Altar Guild of First Ev. Lutheran Church in Blue Island. She also volunteered at First Ev. Lutheran School while her children attended, including service on the PTA Board. Esther and Werner also volunteered with the church Evangelism Committee.
Esther enjoyed crocheting afghans for family members and making baby clothing for charity. She was devoted to Bible study, and she enjoyed listening to Moody Bible Institute on the radio. Without musical training, she had a talent for playing songs on the piano “by ear”.
She was the loving mother of Carl, Susan (John Brtis) Luenser, Nancy (Rob) Calabrese, and Jean (Don) Horner. She was the cherished grandmother of Alex (Sara) Scott, and proud great grandmother of Stan and Harvey.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Mary Woke, and her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Arthur (Silvia) Woike, Ruth (Irvin) Prafke, Elmer (Peggy) Woike, Alice Woike, Ervin (Ann) Woike, Henry (Elsie) Woike, William (MaryAnne) Woike, Lois (William Haase), and Gladys (Norman) Decker.
Visitation for Esther will be held Friday, November 13, 2020, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S. Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. After the service, interment will take place at First Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Alsip.
Memorial donations may be directed to First Ev. Lutheran Church, Grove and Ann Its., Blue Island, IL 60406.
Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, all precautions must be adhered to and will be enforced. All visitors must have facial coverings and follow social distancing standards of 6 feet. The number of visitors will be monitored and it is requested that you refrain from physical contact. Out of courtesy to all who wish to pay their respects, please keep your time in the chapel brief.
