Obituary of John F. Dominici

John F. Dominici, 92, of Orland Park, passed from this life Saturday, December 12, 2020. John is the beloved husband of Helen M. nee Eischen. He is the loving father of Diane (Jerome) Chrapkiewicz, Dr. John T. Dominici, Thomas (Geraldine) Dominici, Laura (Larry) Phipps, Jerome (Janet) Dominici and James (Maria) Dominici. John is the cherished grandfather of Cheryl (Kanon) Kysiak, Keri Grencick, Tracy (Andre) Lopez, Larry Phipps, Jaclyn Dominici, Angela Dominici, Ashley Dominici, Erin Dominici, James Dominici Jr., Lauren Dominici, Andrea Dominici and Danielle Dominici. He is the proud great grandfather of Kolton Kysiak, Kaden Kysiak, Jordon Heath, Wyatt Lopez and Evan Phipps. John is the dear brother of the late Jerome Dominici, the late Anthony Dominici, the late Caroline Reinhardt and Robert "Bob" Dominici. John Frank Dominici was born in Chicago on 9/4/1928 to Giovanni and Josephine (Dalu) Dominici, Italian immigrants from Sicily. He was the youngest of five siblings. John attended Parker HS where he played saxophone and clarinet in the school band. After graduating from Parker HS he joined US Army during the Korean Conflict. John was stationed in Alaska where his disdain for cold weather began. After his tour of duty he and his brother Bob began learning the upholstery trade with the Pullman Co. He worked with a seamstress, Helen Eischen who was to become his future mother-in-law. She introduced him to her daughter, Helen who was a secretary there. They were married November 13, 1954. John worked as an upholstery for the Pullman Co., Schnadig Corp. and his own business, Dominici and Sons Reupholstering. Except for a short stint with the US Postal service he worked in the furniture and upholstery business with pride until retiring in 1990. He enjoyed bowling and participated on bowling leagues with his wife, children and friends. He loved making cannoli at Christmas time. While living at Heartis, he loved sharing his homemade biscotti with his fellow residents. John loved playing cards with family and friends. He likes playing bingo, kings in the corner and poker and was awarded a trophy for his card playing abilities. A trip to test his luck at the slot machines was always a treat. He was a member of the American Legion and served as a member of the color guard. It was his honor to sell Veterans Day Poppies and place flags on veterans tombstones. John was a kind, caring, trusted, loving, amazing man who will be sadly missed by his wife, family, friends and anyone that had the privilege to know him. Services will be held privately on Friday, December 18, 2020. Live streaming will be available to the public at 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:30 am.
