It`s awfully hard to express in words what I`d like to say about Ron in this short space. True friends are hard to come by. Ron was exactly that, a true fiend. We experienced so many happy times, over the years, with Bonnie and Ron. Be it West Side Little League, doings at St. Benedict Parish, graduations, or just plain gatherings at each others house. Inside that sometimes "gruff" exterior was a heart of gold. Funny? absolutely. Caring? you bet. How many of the worlds problems did we solve at Cliff`s after a ballgame! R.I.P. my friend. May God rest your soul. My heartfelt condolences to Mike and his wife Tes.

To Mike and Tes...
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your father Ron. He was the best, a very good man, such a kind and caring person who always treated everyone so well.
I can't believe how time has flown by since Ron and Bonnie moved into the house across the alley in Blue Island back in the late 1960's. He was such a unique character, a rather large imposing man (in the eyes of a 12-year-old) who was like a bull in a china shop. But looks were deceiving as Ron was more of a gentle giant.
Many times I sat with Ron and Bonnie in their kitchen or the backyard, talking about baseball, educational matters, and life in general. It was so much fun, especially because they treated me with such kindness and respect, never talking down to this young kid who was still trying to find his way in life.
Reflecting back on those days in my interactions with Ron, a few things come to mind. Since I coached and ran the Pony-Colt programs at Hart Park for 25 years and they ran West Side Baseball, we were constantly discussing all the challenges both programs presented over the year. It was so much fun, but if people only knew how much time and effort it took to keep all those programs running...
Of course, I had the lighted basketball court in my backyard so we spent a lot of time playing pick-up games with everyone in the neighborhood, sometimes late into the night (which really annoyed some of the neighbors...lol). Ron, sometimes still wearing his work boots, was a force to wreck on with. But we had loads of fun and even more laughs during these battles.
One of the most vivid memories I have of Ron is his love of cigars. He'd come home from hard day at work, sit in the backyard, and light up a rather large one. He'd sometimes blown smoke at me to get a rise out of me, a hard-core non-smoker. It used to drive me crazy. He'd just laugh, but it was all in good jest.
I'm so glad that he had a life well-lived, rich and full. Now he gets to spend eternity with his beloved Bonnie. God has plans for everyone. I'm sure he has a special one for him. Peace and serenity for all eternity.

It's hard to say goodbye and even harder when it's your dad. Uncle Ronald was one of a kind and had a voice and laugh you could never forget. I am blessed that I talked to him a few months ago. Mike, he really is proud of you and spoke highly of Tess. I have fond memories of your mom and dad. I'm glad that your dad is free from pain. You know he is rejoicing with Aunt Bonnie, Rosemarie (sister), Ed & Tilly Beal (mom and dad). I know it hurts deeply to loose our parents. Sweetheart just know you were a wonderful son and all the great memories that will live on inside you forever. Also know your Georgia cousins are praying for you and Tess. May God Rest Uncle Ronald Soul and comfort you both. Love, hugs and peace. Doris Gaddis Bartlett
