Obituary of Marianne Liauba

Marianne S. Liauba was born into eternal life on Jan. 28, 2020, at the age of 64. She was born in Chicago, IL on November 2, 1955, to Cass and Mary Liauba. She lived in the Roseland neighborhood for her childhood, attending St. Salomea School. She excelled in schoolwork, consistently being on the honor roll. She attended Mother of Sorrows High School. During high school, her family moved to Blue Island. While at Mother of Sorrows, Marianne was involved in many activities, including the library, French, and math clubs, as well as the school newspaper and yearbook. After high school, she attended DePaul University, where she majored in English. While in school, she started work at Marshall Field’s. She attended Northern Illinois University and received her MA in English. She continued to work at Marshall Field for a few years, until she found other jobs that used her education, such as being a children’s librarian. Marianne was involved with her community, especially the Friends of the Blue Island Public Library. She helped with the book sales, ice cream social; and wrote and executed the Murder Mysteries. She was also involved in her parish, being a CCD teacher for Confirmation candidates at St. Benedict Church in Blue Island. She taught English at South Suburban Community College for over twenty years, beginning as an adjunct professor, and eventually becoming chair of the English department. She remained a professor there until the time of her passing. She was very interested in sewing and fabric arts and helped many brides with their wedding apparel. Marianne had a soft spot in her heart for children and animals. She leaves behind her godson, Stanley Beasley, and goddaughter, Cathy Kenny-Wilkerson, as well as her two cats. Her dear cousin Debbie Crisman also mourns her loss. Visitation will be held Monday, February 3rd, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with chapel prayers at 3:00 pm at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S. Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. Cremation is private.
