Obituary of Mario Thomas Mendez

Mario T. Mendez, 69, of Blue Island, passed from this life Saturday, March 5, 2022. Mario is the beloved husband of Maria Del Rosario Mendez. He is the loving father of Jody T. (Jamie L.) Mendez, Jamy A. Mendez, Justin Mendez, Thomas (Sarah) Mendez and Ricardo Mendez and the proud step-father of Daniel Contreras, Edward Moy and Daniel Moy. Mario is the cherished grandfather of Kylie, Maxwell, Brendon, Bryana, Justin Jr., Melanie, Gabriella, Dominic, Charlie and Oliver. He is the dear brother of Joseph Mendez, Danny Mendez, George Mendez and Arthur Mendez. Mario leaves many other family members and friends to cherish his memory. Mario was born January 15, 1953 in Blue Island to the late Margaret Lopez and the late Joseph Mendez. He founded Mario’s Tacos on Olde Western in 1975. Mario was welcoming, kind and a true restaurant connoisseur. The dedication he and his family had for the restaurant was soon reflected in the people of the community. They would visit often, knowing that they would be treated with the utmost respect and enjoy a delicious meal! They would also take pleasure in the beautiful flower gardens in the summer. He was a gifted drummer and performed in many rock bands. Mario will truly be missed by many. Visitation for Mario will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 am at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S. Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. Interment will take place at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The American Cancer Society greatly appreciated.
